How do you feel about otherkin?

As long as they aren’t claiming to be oppressed in the way trans people, people of color, lgbtq, etc. are, I’m pretty fine with them. If they aren’t doing that specifically, they are hurting no one.

However, if they are, obviously they are hurting people. That is taking something that is a choice (and do not tell me it isn’t a choice to identify as a fictional character, a plant, or an inanimate object) and acting as if they are in the same boat with a trans person.

It may be a choice to come out and identify as the opposite gender everyone in your life takes you for, but like sexual orientation that shit is genetic - I don’t think people would chose to go through the kind of bullying and hatred these folks do.

Otherkin might get bullied or made fun of. But it’s not the same thing as society-wide oppression and subjugation. We are supposed to live in a wonderful, free world and you are in your right - entirely - to be eccentric or non-standard in the eyes of others in any way you feel. Just don’t co-opt other people’s experiences and act a martyr.
